In a recent 2019 survey the Isle of Man was ranked the best place to live in the British Isles and scored 12th place in the world.

The HSBC Expat Explorer Survey is the longest running independent global survey of expats, completed by 18,059 expats across the world (an ‘expat’ is someone living somewhere that is different to where they were born).

The survey provides insight into the quality of life, political and economic stability, education and healthcare for expat communities in popular destination countries across the globe.

The Isle of Man topped the scores of the rest of the British Isles with the UK scoring 27th, Guernsey 25th and Jersey 19th. Ireland was not far behind the Isle of Man, ranking 14th.

Of those surveyed regarding the Isle of Man:

  • almost three quarters of respondents said their quality of life had improved since moving to the island
  • 92% of people said they felt safer on the Island compared to where they used to live

“It is clear that the quality of life we enjoy in the Isle of Man makes us an attractive destination for those looking to relocate to live and work, but it is also fantastic to see how competitive we are on a global scale in terms of political and economic stability, our wellbeing and family offering.”
